Georgian airspace shut down to Russian military aircraft since 2008, Economy Ministry says

The Georgian Economy Ministry denied Friday that a Russian airforce jet entered Georgian air space.

The remark came after Mtavari TV said the Russian jet carried out a Moscow-Yerevan flight via Georgia. The Ministry slammed the TV for spreading “unverified, harmful, and dangerous” information amid current developments in Ukraine.

The Ministry stressed that Georgian airspace had been shut down to Russian military aircraft since 2008, while the MES aircraft do not have military status.

According to the Ministry’s readout, “Georgian skies were used by the Ministry of Emergency Situations Il-76 aircraft (RA76429), which makes a usual civilian flight that did not require Georgia’s permission.”
