Nika Gvaramia: Everyone must reflect on their true motives; whether they are fighting for Georgia or self-interest ahead of 2028
According to Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, anyone rejecting unity is actively sabotaging the opposition’s broader strategy. Gvaramia expressed his views on social media.
“The opposition’s strategy has been clearly stated: domestic protests, international sanctions, and a viable alternative. Anyone rejecting unity, and openly or covertly combating any form of integration or seeking to demolish a coalition, is directly or indirectly sabotaging all three fronts.
Unity and a viable alternative are the primary demands of the public and the ultimate prerequisites for protest; this was clearly demonstrated by the rally on May 26. The public needs to see that their protests can be translated into political action and that the political spectrum can actually effect change. Without this conviction, the protest loses momentum, as disappointment breeds apathy.
Furthermore, unity and a viable alternative are absolutely crucial for reinforcing the international community’s belief that change is possible. It reassures them that sanctions are not merely designed to punish individuals but to help the Georgian people and the democratic political spectrum steer the country back onto its Western path and restore democracy.
Everyone must reflect on what they are doing, what they want, and what they intend to achieve. Everyone must ask themselves what they are truly fighting for: is it political self-preservation, weakening opponents ahead of the 2028 elections, avoiding or securing release from prison, or are they fighting for their country against Bidzina? Empty rhetoric changes nothing and often serves only to mislead the public, as in far too many cases, their actions directly contradict their solemn vows,” Gvaramia wrote.
