New highway road signs introduced indicating permissible speeds by vehicle category
According to the Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure, new road signs have been installed on highways across the country to enhance traffic safety and provide drivers with timely information. The signs indicate the average permissible speed by vehicle category.
The signs specify vehicle categories for which the maximum permissible speed on certain sections of highways is 80 km/h.
“The restrictions apply to the following vehicle categories: C, CE, C1, C1E, D, DE, D1, D1E — large and medium-sized trucks, trucks with trailers, large buses, minibuses, and buses with trailers.
The signs are installed at the exits of traffic junctions to ensure that drivers receive advance and clear information about traffic conditions before entering the motorway. This allows drivers to plan their journey properly and continue driving safely.
It is important to note that these speed restrictions are not new. They are defined in subparagraphs ‘d,’ ‘e,’ and ‘f’ of Part 7 of Article 33 of the Law of Georgia ‘On Road Traffic’ and have been in force since 2013. The installation of the new road signs serves solely to ensure that drivers are informed of these rules in a clear and timely manner.
In addition, drivers are informed that starting from December 22 of this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will begin enforcing speed violations exceeding 80 km/h on sections with differentiated average speed control.
Drivers are urged to observe road signs and comply with the existing regulations carefully,” the Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure stated.
