“Giorgi Baramidze’s statement regarding the treatment of prisoners during the war fought for Georgia’s territorial integrity is extremely irresponsible and harms Georgia’s national interests,” stated MP Aleksandre Tabatadze, Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.

According to Tabatadze, such statements insult veterans and fallen heroes who fought to defend Georgia’s independence and territorial integrity.

“It is unacceptable to propagate narratives for political ends that call into question the dignity of Georgian military personnel and fighters, creating a false impression both domestically and internationally. It is particularly alarming that such statements stand in direct contradiction to the Georgian government’s policy of reconciliation, which is grounded in promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict, rebuilding trust, and respecting the principles of international humanitarian law.

Under conditions of ongoing occupation, as Georgia daily defends its political and legal standing on the international stage, every public assessment carries exceptional weight. Accusations of this nature can be weaponised against Georgia by forces that have sought to discredit our country for years. Such statements weaken Georgia’s standing in both the political and legal arenas, and add additional arguments to our adversaries.

National security, the country’s defence capability, the dignity of our armed forces, and Georgia’s international interests must never become instruments of domestic political dispute; these are issues where responsibility must be shared, and which everyone must approach with utmost caution,” declared Aleksandre Tabatadze.
