Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture meets Armenian colleague within CBD COP17
Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Davit Songhulashvili met Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan during the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which takes place from 19 to 30 October 2026 in Yerevan, Armenia.
The two ministers reviewed cooperation priorities and expressed readiness to continue cooperation in water resources monitoring and information exchange.
“The historical friendship and strategic partnership between Georgia and Armenia provide a solid foundation for further strengthening cooperation in the environmental sphere. Our countries face common challenges regarding the protection of biodiversity, the management of water resources, and adaptation to climate change,” said Davit Songhulashvili.
The meeting focused on the initiative to establish a joint system of regional geoparks involving Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, an initiative that Georgia is working to implement in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and relevant partners.
