A new 8-kilometre, four-lane section of the Lanchkhuti-Lesa corridor on the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway has officially opened to road traffic.
According to Georgia’s Ministry of Infrastructure, three parallel bridges and two transport hubs have been constructed in Lanchkhuti and Lesa along this stretch.
The Ministry further reports that the construction of the 52-kilometre Samtredia-Grigoleti highway is progressing in four sections. The second and fourth sections are already in use by vehicles, while work on the first section is ongoing. Active construction also continues on the remaining six kilometres of the third 12-kilometre segment.
The Ministry states that the installation of stone columns and drainage layers has been completed, with road surface laying underway and bridge structures in the process of being built.
“The third section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway passes through the Guria region, bypassing the populated areas of Lanchkhuti town and the villages of Gvimbalairi, Kvemo Chibati, and Nigoeti. This highway of international significance will enhance transport capacity, improve traffic safety, and ensure uninterrupted transit connections,” the Ministry of Infrastructure said in a statement.
The Ministry also noted that the construction of the third section is being financed through a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and co-financed by the state, with a total investment of GEL 324.6 million.
