NATO Chief: Important to engage with partner relations like Georgia
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says “Georgia is a partner. I have just visited Georgia and it is important to engage with partner relations like Georgia. At the same time, the new law on foreign agents takes Georgia in the wrong direction.”
“NATO allies and other countries have expressed their concerns, and we need to ensure that the aspirations of the Georgian people, the democratic society, something which is met,” the NATO Chief stated in an interview with Europe Editor Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Rikard Jozwiak.
Asked about whether it was time to scale down NATO-Georgia engagement, Stoltenberg went on to say “It has not been addressed and our partnership is something which has broad support, and of course, the part of the partnership is political dialogue and political dialogue is also to raise concerns. They have applied for membership, we have not yet granted them a membership action plan but we have a partnership relationship with Georgia.”
