National Food Agency uncovers illegal animal slaughterhouse in Mtskheta-Mtianeti

Inspectors from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Department of the National Food Agency have uncovered an illegal slaughterhouse in the village of Tsikhisdziri, Mtskheta Municipality.

According to the National Food Service, an individual named R.O. was slaughtering and processing livestock in his own yard within an improvised slaughter facility, grossly breaching sanitary and hygienic standards and operating without veterinary oversight. A substantial quantity of meat, 11 cattle, intended for sale, was seized by inspectors.

The individual has been fined, and all unsafe meat will be destroyed in accordance with the legislation.

“Slaughtering animals without veterinary supervision endangers human health and safety, increasing the risk of zoonotic disease transmission (such as anthrax, brucellosis, etc.) and poisoning,” the agency stated.

The National Food Agency urges individuals not to conduct animal slaughter at makeshift facilities without proper veterinary oversight.
