MP Zarkua says Brussels has nothing to do with delegation's composition; they refuse to hear truth

“They are blaming the state for specific issues and have refused to meet with our delegation. They are afraid of open discussion and arguments because they know they are in the wrong,” MP Irakli Zarkua, Chairman of the Parliamentary Diaspora Committee, stated.

Zarkua was asked about the postponement of the Georgia-EU Human Rights Dialogue meeting originally scheduled in Brussels.

“It turns out we have to accept that Brussels bureaucrats decide who is included in our delegation. This is sheer nonsense. If you ask me why the meeting was postponed, it is because they don’t want to hear the truth. Once we expose all their accusations and the smear campaign against Georgia, we will demand answers. That’s precisely why they refused to meet. They are shifting blame onto the state over particular issues and simply refusing to engage with the delegation. Why? Because they’re afraid we’ll tell the truth. If their representatives were here when we adopted the Transparency Law, they might have been open to discussion, perhaps even recognising some validity. But none of them engaged in dialogue. The same pattern continues now: they fear discussion and debate because they know they are in the wrong. We will decide who should be part of the delegation. Just as we didn’t consult Russia on this matter, the same applies to the European bureaucrats,” Zarkua emphasised.

For reference, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Georgia-EU Human Rights Dialogue meeting, scheduled for November 21, 2025, in Brussels, has been postponed by the EU side. The Foreign Ministry noted that this postponement indicates Brussels is not prepared to listen to Georgia’s position.
