MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili: CoE resolution is riddled with misinformation, aiming to stoke tensions and force Georgia onto defensive
“They keep churning out these resolutions to maintain informational pressure, but as you can see, this pressure is failing. We act solely in our national interests,” MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, told GPB First Channel.
Sharmanashvili further asserted that the Council of Europe (CoE) resolution is riddled with misinformation.
“The resolution drafted by the Council of Europe is a mere rehash of the one recently passed by the European Parliament. This is standard practice, as the process is orchestrated from a single centre. The resolution is saturated with inaccurate information, drawing conclusions based on outright falsehoods.
There is nothing new here; they adopt these kinds of resolutions periodically. Their ultimate goal is to stoke tensions within the country and force Georgia onto the defensive. However, none of this will pressure the government into changing its course. They keep churning out these resolutions to maintain informational pressure, but as you can see, this pressure is failing. We are guided strictly by our national interests,” Sharmanashvili stated.
For context, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is scheduled to debate a report on Georgia today, June 24, ahead of a vote. The co-rapporteurs for the report are Edite Estrela and Sabina Ćudić.
