MP Sharmanashvili: Georgia’s exclusion from enlargement summit follows long-term ‘fake agenda’; we won’t join the show
“They froze relations with Georgia a long time ago based on a fake agenda. That is why we were not invited, and frankly, we have no desire to partake in this show,” MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, told GPB First Channel.
Sharmanashvili was asked to comment on the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee meeting on enlargement, to which Georgia has not been invited.
“Was this not entirely expected? The Prime Minister has already stated that Georgia will not put enlargement issues on the table until 2028, though we stand ready to engage if they show willingness themselves.
The so-called opposition threw a tantrum over this, claiming the process had ground to a halt; yet the EU itself had previously written to us to say they had frozen the process. They suspended relations with Georgia a long time ago over a faked agenda. That is why they didn’t invite us, and we have no grievances about not being part of this show. They aren’t using these issues to discuss European integration genuinely; they are using them to pressure the government and instigate a revolution in the country,” Sharmanashvili stated.
