MP Sergi Kapanadze – Russia failed in process of recognition of occupied regions
Russia failed in process of recognition of Georgia’s two occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions – Sergi Kapanadze, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said.
MP commented about the statement made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who said that the ‘process of international recognition of Abkhazia is irreversible.’
“The statement of Lavrov stands far from reality. The process of recognition of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions has actually toppled. Vanuatu and Tuvalu reversed the recognition. Venezuela and Nicaragua will follow the move when regimes change there. The process is unsuccessful,” Kapanadze said.
The process of international recognition of Abkhazia as an independent state is irreversible, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a documentary about former so-called Abkhazian “president” Sergey Bagapsh.
Russia recognized the independence and sovereignty of Georgia’s two breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia on 26 August 2008, immediately after the Russia-Georgia War over Georgia’s Tskhinvali region.
