MP Samkharadze: We will not return to PACE until our delegation’s credentials are unconditionally recognised
“Alain Berset has been placed in a rather difficult position. He does not want to see Georgia isolated and is therefore doing everything he can to ensure the issue is resolved in a civilised manner. However, when it comes to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), we maintain our own firm stance,” MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, has stated.
According to Samkharadze, this position is well known to everyone.
“We have stated this both publicly and behind closed doors. We are telling them exactly what we are telling you now: we will not return until the credentials of the Georgian delegation are unconditionally recognised. The recognition of these credentials must be achieved specifically through the revocation of the January 2025 resolution,” Samkharadze stated.
For context, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, previously stated: “Georgia’s absence from the Parliamentary Assembly has not improved the situation. The question is how we can resolve this to achieve the best possible outcome; isolation is not the solution.”
