MP Nikoloz Samkharadze: Factions targeting Georgia in CoE mirror EP in a cookie-cutter policy

“The Council of Europe’s resolution fails to mention the storming of the presidential palace, the injuries inflicted on police officers, or the foreign interference in our elections,” stated the Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, MP Nikoloz Samkharadze.

According to him, these politically motivated resolutions and documents carry absolutely no weight.

“Naturally, this is a cookie-cutter policy. The same political parties and factions that assault Georgia within the European Parliament are represented in the Council of Europe. Furthermore, these individuals are actively attempting to push the same agenda across other international assemblies. It is a deliberate, coordinated campaign, especially given that not a single allegation they have put forward can or will be verified.

Crucially, the resolution completely omits facts such as the storming of the presidential palace, the injuring of police officers, and overt interference in our elections. The Georgian public sees right through the motives behind these resolutions; consequently, these documents carry absolutely no political weight,” Samkharadze stated.

For context, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) recently adopted a resolution concerning Georgia. The resolution was supported by 83 members of the Assembly, with five voting against and four abstaining.
