MP Matikashvili: Radicals united in hatred of their own country are nothing new; they will be bitterly defeated

“Radicals and agents uniting in hatred of their own country is nothing new. Lelo and Gakharia are under illusions. They believe, falsely, that given their extremely low ratings, they will somehow be able to defeat the Georgian Dream,” stated MP Davit Matikashvili, chairman of the parliamentary committee on procedural issues.

According to Matikashvili, ultimately, the decision lies with the people at the ballot box.

“The elections are imminent. Once again, the ratings of all parties will be measured, and it will become clear that these agents are indifferent to Georgia and its political landscape. Of course, this will be reflected in the minimal support they garner. We remember that their support in the parliamentary elections was completely levelled. They are betraying their homeland and the people who once supported them. There is a clear reason for this—society is well aware that the ‘Deep State’ struggles to implement its own decisions. It is unthinkable to deceive the Georgian people and cast dust in their eyes. These forces are constantly exploring different options, hoping that a loophole will appear, allowing them to advance their revanchist ideas.

There is a disturbing scenario. There is an Orthodox UNM-style caste that refuses to participate in elections, choosing instead to remain in a boycott regime. Meanwhile, another faction has signed a memorandum to participate—an attempt to deceive the public and create a false sense of legitimacy. They are attempting to sharply distinguish these two groups—separating Lelo and Gakharia from the United National Movement, which is burdened with sins and crimes—and to portray them as a moderate or middle-class force.

But no memorandum will save them. This scenario will not succeed, and in the end, the people will decide. Ultimately, all radicals across all 64 municipalities will be bitterly defeated,” Matikashvili declared.

The Gakharia for Georgia party and Lelo-Strong Georgia coalition signed a memorandum of cooperation for the October 4 elections. In response, the United National Movement stated, “There are no elections in the country; this is a Russian special operation. Anyone who joins this operation will face consequences.”
