MP Matikashvili: EU avoided dialogue and refused to address Georgia’s evidence
The European Union made a shameful decision by avoiding dialogue and, in effect, refusing to engage with the Georgian side or respond to the evidence Georgia intended to present, said Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues, in an interview with the GPB First Channel.
According to Matikashvili, Georgia has plenty to discuss, while the European Union has nothing substantive to say.
“The dignity of our country must be protected, and of course, we will act accordingly as a respectable state. We have something to talk about, while, unfortunately, the European Union does not. They cannot ignore the progress Georgia has made, and whether they like it or not, they are compelled to acknowledge the country’s achievements. Naturally, it is difficult for them to turn a blind eye to the truth. Therefore, they chose to avoid dialogue with the Georgian side,” Matikashvili said.
On November 19, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the postponement of the Georgia–EU Human Rights Dialogue. According to the ministry, the meeting scheduled for November 21, 2025, in Brussels was postponed at the decision of the European Union. The ministry noted that this postponement demonstrates Brussels’ unwillingness to hear Georgia’s position.
