MP Matikashvili: EC's enlargement report was full of lies; attempt to pressure society with fictitious narrative

“The society has been presented with a wholly shameless report from the European Commission, replete with falsehoods and anti-Georgian rhetoric. The European Commission and the European Union could not conceal their clearly unfriendly attitude towards our country and the Georgian people,” stated MP Davit Matikashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to Matikashvili, this is merely an attempt to pressure society through a fabricated report.

“The report is riddled with irrelevant, unrealistic so-called facts and arguments, giving the clear impression that they are doing everything possible to discredit Georgians and Georgia’s European aspirations. It contains lies about how it allegedly failed to support existing resolutions favouring Ukraine and how it supposedly acted against common European initiatives. The report has been falsified from start to finish; we can call it that. It is a fake report, an attempt to exert pressure on our society through falsehoods.

What is most surprising and shameful for those who authored it is that, alongside this report from the European Commission, there has been extensive publication within the European Union highlighting Georgia’s notable progress. In many respects, Georgia ranks highly not only among candidate countries but also among EU member states. They acknowledge all this with a smile; yet, in many cases, they choose not to mention it at all,” said Davit Matikashvili.

The European Commission released its report on EU enlargement on November 4.
