MP Levan Makhashvili: EC’s report is indirect acknowledgement of Georgia’s correct policy; I hope it goes beyond mere figures

“It is encouraging to see recognition of Georgia’s correct policy. These are not merely figures; alongside these figures, the European Commission’s report serves as an indirect acknowledgement that the country is pursuing the right economic and foreign policies,” stated MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, to GPB First Channel.

According to Makhashvili, amidst developments in candidate countries and the region, Georgia continues to progress, and its economic situation is improving.

“It is unfortunate that economic data is often overlooked when political considerations come into play. The European Commission’s stance is influenced not just by economic indicators but by narrow political interests. That is exactly what we observe. Some member states do not favour economic growth; instead, they pursue their own political goals, even at the expense of the country’s development. While this recognition is welcome, I hope it will not remain solely in the realm of economic figures but will translate into tangible positive policies towards Georgia. Currently, it appears that narrow political interests in Brussels take precedence over economic considerations in this geopolitical game. We firmly believe that our starting point must be economic development, as this is vital for our citizens. This principle guides our domestic and foreign policies,” Makhashvili emphasised.

The European Commission has published an updated economic forecast for 2026, which includes projections for Georgia’s economy.
