MP Khvedeliani: This is not opposition unity, but unity of boycotters responsible for October 4
“In reality, this is not genuine unity within the opposition; it is the unity of those who previously aligned together in the boycott. Let us not forget that they are the same individuals responsible for October 4. Now, they are behaving as if nothing happened, while people are still behind bars because of their actions,” stated MP Tata Khvedeliani, a member of the Gakharia for Georgia party, in an interview with GPB First Channel.
When asked about the issue of opposition unification, Khvedeliani responded:
“They are pursuing their own agendas. These individuals are the architects of the October 4 provocation, which the government only used to further consolidate its position. They created the ideal environment for the Georgian Dream to gain strength. Setting aside their UNM origins, these people are boycott supporters. October 4 has divided us from our ultimate goal.”
For context, a meeting of several opposition parties took place on March 2, after which Nika Gvaramia announced that the opposition alliance had been formed. “We are building unity together for victory.”
The opposition parties involved in the gathering also issued a joint statement, signed by Ahali, Girchi, Droa, European Georgia, United National Movement, National Democratic Party, Freedom Square, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, and Federalists.
