MP Kadagishvili: Georgia among Europe’s top 20 for low corruption; Ukraine and Moldova lead in corruption
“It has been revealed that, according to one of the most fundamental indicators for assessing a country’s integrity, the level of corruption, Georgia ranks among the top 20 in Europe. Our aim is not merely to be in the top 20, but to be among the very best,” stated MP Irakli Kadagishvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.
The MP was asked about the European Commission’s Rule of Law Index, which ranks Georgia in the top 20 of EU member and candidate countries for low corruption, while Ukraine and Moldova hold the first and second positions for the highest corruption levels.
“In recent years, if we examine the statements and rhetoric coming from the United States, Europe, and the European Union, corruption has been one of the key indicators used to evaluate a country. This has often been accompanied by assessments of democracy, regime stability, and even naming individuals involved. It turns out that Georgia is in the top 20 in Europe when it comes to this most fundamental metric.
Our goal, however, is not just to be in the top 20 but to be among the leading nations. According to the European Commission’s latest study, Georgia ranks in the top 20 of EU member and candidate countries for low corruption. In contrast, Ukraine and Moldova, which are said to be among the most developed candidates, are recognised as the leading countries in corruption. This is the reality, and we are dedicated to challenging this propaganda and ensuring fairness in these assessments,” emphasised Kadagishvili.
