“The decision by the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, to travel to Iran today to offer his condolences is an entirely correct and pragmatic move,” parliamentary majority member MP Irakli Cheishvili has declared.

In his assessment, the Georgian government is being subjected to a deliberate smear campaign.

“High-ranking officials from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and even NATO member Turkey have travelled to Iran to extend their condolences. This is a regional, neighbourly context that must absolutely be taken into account. The fact that the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, travelled to Iran today to pay his respects is a correct and pragmatic decision.

There is a concerted effort to discredit our government and our nation. This is a deliberate attempt by domestic and foreign adversaries to paint our country in a bad light. Leaders from Turkey, a NATO member, as well as leaders from direct allies of the United States, are present there, yet in this specific instance, the onslaught is exclusively directed at Georgia and President Kavelashvili. This is entirely premeditated. Both internal and external enemies are simply executing an order. There is no other explanation for it,” Cheishvili remarked.
