MP Ionatamishvili: Juknevičienė’s statement reveals that EU accession demands Georgia's destruction in war, not democratic standards
“I am left with the distinct impression that the communist Rasa Juknevičienė plagiarises her resolutions from traditional Soviet Union documents. In truth, this latest resolution is entirely fueled by hostility towards Georgia. Of course, it will turn out to be just another worthless scrap of paper, but the adoption of such resolutions ultimately damages the credibility of the EU institutions themselves,” stated MP Rati Ionatamishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Civil Integration.
Commenting on the European Parliament’s report regarding Georgia, Ionatamishvili added that “this further exposes the crisis that Eurocrats have inflicted upon their own countries.”
“As for Rasa Juknevičienė’s statement, what we have learned today is that, apparently, it is not democratic standards that matter for EU accession, but rather war and the destruction of a country in conflict. This is completely unacceptable. It demonstrates that these individuals are betraying the very foundational values upon which the European Union was built, namely, peace and security.
Today, instead of advocating for peace, they are actively engaging in war propaganda. The public can see plain as day just how detached these people have become from genuine European values,” Rati Ionatamishvili declared.
The comments come in response to a statement by Lithuanian Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Rasa Juknevičienė, who remarked: “Georgia is failing to seize the momentum created by the window of opportunity opened by the Ukrainians; before the 2022 war, no one was talking about enlargement.”
