“Regrettably, Kaja Kallas is paving the way for the regression of democracy. While we face criticism for our democratic processes, she is disregarding the very foundations upon which democracy is built,” stated MP Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Georgian Parliament.

According to Gorduladze, Kaja Kallas cannot claim to be acting in truth when her actions serve to divide Georgian society from the democratically elected government.

“This constitutes direct subversion of democracy itself. Unfortunately, Kaja Kallas is heading down a path that undermines democratic principles. While we are scrutinised for our democracy, she appears to be neglecting its core principles. Moreover, the unelected bureaucracy does not represent the Georgian people or European nations; their statements carry little weight. For instance, one European Commissioner has openly questioned whether Georgian legislation should be respected, and has even suggested seeking ways to introduce illicit funds into the country. This is yet another clear sign of democratic backsliding, which is deeply concerning. Such developments reinforce our belief that Europe must reaffirm its commitment to the European Union,” Gorduladze emphasised.

Ahead of the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Yerevan, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas commented: “Discussions are ongoing to facilitate progress on connectivity. However, there are some issues with Georgia, as the government is taking steps in the wrong direction.”
