Moambe news bulletin of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) turned 54 today.
The history of Moambe begins in 1968. Its main editor Tamaz Khomeriki named the news program according to the Georgian Moambe, a journal established by the prominent writer and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze.
Initially, several employees prepared the news with one TV camera and two presenters. They told the news to viewers with photos.
Later, journalists in Georgia and across the Soviet Union started to use video cameras. Moambe used to be the only information source in the country for many years.
The events of the April 9, 1989 tragedy, first elections of independent Georgia and Abkhazia war, shot by Moambe cameramen, are kept among the unique materials in the GPB archive.
Currently, news of the Georgian Public Broadcaster is available on different platforms, in several languages, and on the website 1tv.ge.
