The Ministry of Defense of Georgia publishes a new concept on military reserve and mobilization.

As noted in the information of the Ministry of Defense, the defense of the country is the duty not only of the Georgian military, but of every citizen. The Ministry  in the Strategic Review Document presented the principle of total defense, in which the formation of an effective reserve system and mobilization is one of the most important tasks.

“The purpose of our reserve concept is to ensure the wide involvement of Georgian citizens in total defense and the optimal use resources.

According to the new bill,  reserve of two types will be created: an active reserve and a mobilization reserve.

The active reserve service will be voluntary, a contract will be issued for a period of up to 5 years, and a 5-year period will be included in the total work experience. In the case of calling up for military service, workplace and salary of reservist will be retained.

The active Reserve service will be divided into three parts:

• Reserve of the armed forces;
• Territorial reserve;
• Reserve of specialists.

The second type of reserve, the mobilization reserve, is compulsory and its aim is to strengthen the military forces and fill up losses..” – , Information released by the Ministry reads.
