Migration officers detain foreign citizen for expulsion from Georgia
Employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained N.M., a foreign citizen born in 1989, who had a prior conviction and was serving a suspended sentence. The Ministry released a statement confirming the detention and subsequent expulsion from Georgia.
According to the MIA, recent amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons have strengthened mechanisms for expelling both illegally and legally residing foreign nationals when legal grounds exist.
The Ministry recalled that a video featuring the same individual had circulated on social media a few days earlier, showing him behaving aggressively and violating public order near the Marjanishvili metro station.
Following the incident, N.M. was detained by the Old Tbilisi Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department under Articles 173 and 166 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which pertain to petty hooliganism and disobedience to a lawful police order.
By the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, N.M. was fined 4,000 GEL.
Subsequently, in accordance with Georgian legislation, the Migration Department initiated expulsion procedures, and the individual has now been banned from entering Georgia.
