Migration Department executes raids, detains 12 foreign nationals in crackdown on illegal migration

As part of its ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) conducted a targeted immigration control operation, the Ministry has reported.

According to the authorities, the operation involved checking specific locations to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without lawful grounds.

“Following the comprehensive operation, 12 foreign nationals were detained. Among them are citizens of Jordan, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. It was established that their presence in the country contravened the requirements set out in the Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons,” the Ministry stated.

The individuals are now held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre, with procedures underway for their expulsion from Georgia.

“The Migration Department will carry out such special immigration control measures regularly to ensure the effective enforcement of Georgia’s law on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs added in a statement.
