Migration Department detains 54 foreign nationals following special immigration control operations

Officers from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have carried out nationwide special immigration control operations.

According to the MIA, these comprehensive operations resulted in the detention of 54 undocumented foreign nationals. Among those detained are citizens of Nigeria, India, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Turkmenistan, China, Pakistan, and Lebanon.

“As part of the special immigration control measures, department staff inspected specific locations and various types of facilities. The objective was to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.
It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements set out by the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’.

The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s Temporary Detention Centre. Relevant procedures are underway to deport them from the country,” the statement reads.
