Employees of the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have carried out a nationwide operation as part of targeted immigration control measures.
According to the Ministry, these comprehensive efforts resulted in the detention of 42 individuals deemed to be unlawfully present in the country. The detainees include citizens from Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, China, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, and Yemen.
“As part of these special immigration control measures, department personnel carried out inspections at specific locations and facilities of various types. The objective was to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.
It was subsequently established that the detained individuals were in breach of the provisions outlined in the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’,” the Migration Department added.
The detained persons are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. The relevant procedures are now underway to facilitate their deportation from Georgia.
