MIA urges Melikishvili Avenue rally participants to comply with police instructions to prevent escalation
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) urges all participants in the rally at Kakha Kaladze’s electoral headquarters on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi to obey police instructions and prevent the situation from escalating. Failure to do so may lead law enforcement to take measures authorised by law.
“The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs immediately responded to the confrontation between citizens on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi, taking appropriate measures to de-escalate the situation and prevent further escalation. However, some individuals are still disobeying law enforcement officers’ instructions and continue to breach public order,” MIA said in a statement.
“We urge all participants to comply with the lawful instructions of the police and to avoid artificially escalating the situation. Otherwise, law enforcement will take measures in accordance with the law, and any violations will be met with appropriate legal action,” the MIA statement declared.
A confrontation has erupted at the election headquarters of Tbilisi mayoral candidate Kakha Kaladze on Melikishvili Avenue. Reports from the scene indicate clashes between members of the Georgian Dream youth wing and protesting individuals, exchanging insults, throwing objects, and resulting in a physical altercation.
