MIA investigates Melikishvili Avenue clash under pre-election violence article among others

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a statement regarding the altercation that took place on Melikishvili Avenue, near Kakha Kaladze’s election headquarters, on September 8.

The Ministry confirms that an investigation has been launched under a different article, Article 162, which pertains to violence or threats of violence during pre-election agitation and campaign events.

“As is known to the public, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the incident of a confrontation that occurred on September 8 of this year in the vicinity of Kakha Kaladze’s election headquarters on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi under Part 1 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code, which refers to violence committed by a group. Investigative actions are underway.

In addition, based on the statement of representatives of the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, an investigation has been launched into another case, under Part 1 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code, which refers to violence or threats of violence during pre-election agitation and pre-election campaign events.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on all citizens to refrain from violence, incitement to violence, and other actions that damage the pre-election environment and prevent election subjects from campaigning, which, in turn, is an act punishable by law,” the MIA statement reads.
