MIA detains Turkish national on charges of importing narcotic drugs unlawfully

Officers of the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Finance Ministry detained a national of Turkiye, born in 1993, on charges of unlawful purchase, keeping and importing narcotic drugs to Georgia in large quantities.

Law enforcers, through a body search on the territory of the Sarphi border checkpoint, confiscated cocaine drugs kept in 21 packages as evidence.

An investigation is underway under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The detained individual faces up to 20 years in prison or a life sentence.
