MFA: Russia's call on other countries to comply with the Open Skies Treaty is cynical
“Over the years, Russia has been systematically politicizing and violating the provisions of Treaty on Open Skies,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry (MFA) echoed Russia’s statement saying that “Russia is ready to allow the observation mission relating to the Open Skies Treaty in the 10-kilometre zones along the Caucasus border if Georgia allows Russia to fly over its territory.”
Georgian Foreign Ministry said, “Russia’s call on other countries to comply with Treaty on Open Skies without politicization is nothing but a cynical statement.”
MFA noted that “since 2010, Russia has been making fruitless efforts to use this agreement as a tool to legitimize the illegal recognition of the occupied territories of Georgia.”
“Russia tries to cover up its breach of the Treaty on Open Skies and blames other countries. Unlike Russia, Georgia is fully responsible for fulfilling its international obligations and adheres to international law and principles,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
