Georgian MFA echoes Dmitry Medvedev's statement

Georgian Foreign Ministry’s press and information department has echoed the statement by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who said “The idea of joining Russia is still popular in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It could quite possibly be implemented if there are good reasons for that.”

According to the MFA, “Dimitri Medvedev’s statement on the 15th anniversary of the August War, is a continuation of Russia’s occupation policy of Georgian territories, as well as another effort to breach sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“We call on the Russian Federation to respect the fundamental principles and norms of international law and fulfill the cease-fire agreement of August 12, 2008,” reads the statement.

The MFA added that “Georgia firmly adheres to the policy of the conflict’s peaceful resolution.”
