MFA: Foreign nations' attempts to meddle in functioning of sovereign state's institutions unacceptable
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA) on Sunday said it “firmly stands guard over Georgia’s national interests and serves the implementation of goals defined by the Georgian Constitution.”
The Ministry “condemns pressure on Georgia’s diplomatic service and calls for sabotage.”
“Foreign nations’ attempts to meddle in the functioning of a sovereign state’s institutions are unacceptable.
The Georgian government has been faithfully implementing the Association Agreement with the European Union, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement during the [EU] integration process, even before obtaining candidate status.
Accordingly, the Georgian government will firmly continue the irreversible process of European integration based on the Association Agreement, which will provide the country with better preparation for quickly conducting future negotiations on EU membership.
The European Union has not yet decided on the start of accession negotiations with Georgia; therefore, statements about the Georgian government’s termination of negotiations with the European Union do not correspond to the truth.
The government of Georgia’s decision not to place the issue of opening negotiations on EU membership on the agenda until 2028 and to refuse EU budget grants does not mean stopping the process of Georgia’s integration into the European Union and aims to prevent ongoing harmful speculations on this matter,” reads the MFA statement.
