MFA explain to Lithuanian Ambassador that his FM's participation in opposition rally in Tbilisi represents interference in Georgia's internal affairs
Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the information on the summoning of Andrius Kalindra, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia, to the Ministry on Friday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the Ambassador was told that the latest statements of Lithuanian officials, the Foreign Minister’s participation in an opposition protest rally, and the summoning of the Georgian Ambassador to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry represent harsh interference in Georgia’s internal affairs.
“The Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia, Andrius Kalindra, was summoned to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs over Lithuania’s stance and actions over ongoing processes in Georgia and the Law On Transparency of Foreign Influence.
The Georgian side explained to the Ambassador that the latest statements of Lithuanian officials, the participation of the Lithuanian Foreign Minister in an opposition protest rally, and the summoning of the Georgian Ambassador to the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry over the fact that the Georgian Parliament passed the law On Transparency of Foreign Influence represent harsh interference in Georgia’s internal affairs and are not suitable for traditional friendly and partnership relations between the two countries.
At the meeting, the parties expressed hope to return to the positive relations agenda and pledged readiness that foreign ministries of Georgia and Lithuania continue working on the current cooperation agenda,” the Ministry said.
Earlier today, GPB’s First Channel reported on the summoning of the Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia. After the meeting, the Ambassador told the media that he discussed 30 years of Georgia-Lithuania relations.
