Mayor Kaladze calls on Tbilisi residents to support major development projects

“I would like to appeal to the people of Tbilisi for their support and cooperation, as without this, the realisation of large-scale projects remains impossible,” stated Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of the capital, during the inaugural session of the Tbilisi municipal government in 2026.

“We must do everything in our power to leave a better Tbilisi for our future generations, one with greener, more organised infrastructure, improved public transport, new parks, and recreational spaces,” he added.

Kaladze emphasised the importance of community backing during the implementation of these ambitious initiatives.

“Today marks the first session of the 2026 government, signalling our commitment to diligently serve the city’s residents. Most importantly, we will keep the public informed about the various projects in planning and progress. We have repeatedly stated that 2026 will be a year of significant and large-scale development, which we will introduce to you gradually. I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the many residents of Tbilisi who have entrusted us with the city’s future for the third time. I kindly ask for their ongoing support and cooperation, as without it, the realisation of these ambitious projects will be exceedingly difficult,” Kaladze said.

He further explained that the municipality is undertaking all infrastructure works with meticulous care, which naturally requires patience and understanding.

“When we begin rehabilitating streets and renewing avenues, it’s not merely a matter of surface improvements. Our primary focus is on restoring the ageing underground infrastructure. Such work inevitably involves noise and road closures, and in some cases, restrictions on gas and water supplies. I would like to ask for the support of our residents. We all need to be patient to ensure the work is completed swiftly and to the highest standard. This is of fundamental importance. Our goal is to leave a better Tbilisi for future generations, one with greener, more organised infrastructure, enhanced public transport, new parks, and recreational areas,” he declared.

In addition to infrastructure development, the mayor reiterated the importance of social and healthcare programmes, noting that a number of these initiatives will also be funded from the municipal budget this year.

“Of course, this year we will place particular emphasis on healthcare and social projects. While our country continues to progress economically, there remain individuals in need of our support. Both the state and the municipality are committed to standing by these families and ensuring they are not left to face difficulties alone,” Kaladze concluded.
