Mayor Kaladze: Any action disrupting political parties’ campaigns was met with appropriate legal response
“I wish Elene Khoshtaria good health. I am confident that, if necessary, the Penitentiary Service will do everything possible not just for Elene Khoshtaria, but for every single prisoner,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze told journalists.
Furthermore, Kaladze noted that disrupting an election campaign is a crime, despite the numerous public statements made on the matter.
“Every action by any individual that resulted in the disruption of specific political parties’ campaigns has been met with an appropriate response,” Kakha Kaladze stated.
The Tbilisi Mayor emphasised that under current Georgian legislation, obstructing an election campaign carries a corresponding legal penalty.
“Ahead of the elections, every party has the opportunity to conduct its campaign, and no one has the right to interfere with that. Let me remind you of what was happening on Melikishvili Avenue; violent groups were attempting to storm an election campaign headquarters, despite our warnings that such actions were punishable by law. Instead, they were trying to manufacture heroes who did not actually exist. You cannot become a hero through violent acts, throwing Molotov cocktails at police officers, or attempting to burn a person alive,” Kakha Kaladze noted.
