Mamuka Bakhtadze: Mikheil Saakashvili and his aggressive group bear responsibility for the results of June 20 protests
June 20 developments were not the choice of the Interior Ministry or its head. These are their duties, in particular, to protect the constitution, order in the country and democratic institutions, – Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said at the press conference held today.
According to PM, the outcome of the developments is very grave as citizens have been injured during the protest.
As Prime Minister noted, the former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and his group bear responsibility for these results.
“Convicted Saakashvili and his aggressive group are responsible for these outcomes, who tried to use the sincere protest of our citizens and attacked our constitution. It’s totally unacceptable” – Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
As PM pointed out, the law enforcers were doing everything to avoid the interference, but when a passive cordon was not able to stop the aggression, they were forced to take steps and use legitimate force.
“As for the demand on the resignation of Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia, I would like to say that political responsibility on provocations should be taken by a destructive political force, who used the protest of citizens as its weapon. We will provide transparent investigation on separate cases of abuse of power from the side of law enforcers” – Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze met media representatives at a special press conference today. June 20 developments in front of the parliament building at Rustaveli Avenue was the main issue of the meeting.
