Mamuka Bakhtadze – Georgia can become the first country in elimination of C Hepatitis
“C Hepatitis is one of the main challenges of the 21st century and requires much efforts to fight with,” Mamuka Bakhtadze, Georgian Prime Minister stated during the event dedicated to launch of the new campaign against C Hepatitis – STOP C.
According to Prime Minister, many countries turned out unprotected against the disease. Georgia took first steps against it in 2012 with increase of health budget.
“Georgia is a unique country, which successfully coped with the challenge,” Bakhtadze stated. PM thanked American partners and Gilead Pharmaceutical Company for providing Georgia with medicines.
Prime Minister said that 1/3 of the population underwent screening and about 50 thousand people became involved in medication program.
“Georgia can become the first country in elimination of C Hepatitis. This will be a stimulus for other nations that if there is mobilization and the right strategy, any disease can be defeated,” Bakhtadze claimed.
World Hepatitis Day, observed on July 28 every year, aims to raise global awareness of hepatitis. Georgia marked the day with launch of the new campaign – STOP C.
