Main New Year Tree lights up in Tbilisi (In Pictures)

The main New Year Tree has been lit in Tbilisi on the First Republic Square.

A theatrical musical performance featuring the final episode of Oscar Wilde’s fairytale The Star-Child was held on stage.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Cabinet members attended the show.

Tbilisi Mayor congratulated the Georgian population on the New Year.

“I greet the entire Georgia, every region, city, village, I greet our fellow citizens abroad, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili. I greet Tbilisi with special respect and kids here with special affection, whose illuminated and happy faces fill our beautiful capital in anticipation of the New Year with kindness.

The main New Year Tree will light up in several minutes. A New Year village will open from today, that is always associated with special memories and emotions. I am convinced that this year, as always, Tbilisi will be an outstanding city. When lighting the New Year’s tree, people always think of wishes. Of course, there are many wishes, but there is one special peace, since it brings prosperity, development, progress and welfare. May peace reign throughout Georgia, throughout the world. May our beautiful Tbilisi and our Georgia be filled with kindness. Let Tbilisi and our Georgia be full of kindness. I congratulate you all on Christmas, New Year and New Year holiday days,” Kakha Kaladze said.

Tbilisi’s New Year slogan for 2026 is “A City Full of Kindness.”
