Magistrate judge questions ex-Defence Minister Irakli Okruashvili at Tbilisi City Court

Former Defence Minister Irakli Okruashvili is being questioned at the Tbilisi City Court in the presence of a magistrate judge.

Okruashvili arrived at the court accompanied by his lawyer, Mamuka Chabashvili. According to Okruashvili’s lawyer, Mamuka Chabashvili, the questioning is related to an ongoing investigation by the prosecutor’s office.

“Okruashvili was summoned for questioning at the prosecutor’s office, but he personally requested to be questioned in court with a magistrate judge present,” the lawyer stated.

Irakli Okruashvili indicated that he would provide comments following the questioning. The prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation under Article 349, which addresses non-compliance with the lawful demands of an investigative commission.

This investigation against Okruashvili was prompted by a request from Tea Tsulukiani, the chairperson of the parliamentary investigative commission established to probe into activities of the 2003-2012 government and its officials, after Okruashvili refused to attend its session.
