Levan Izoria: Large scale military training are planed with NATO for the next year

NATO remains committed to open door policy, including with respect to Georgia – Candidate for the post of Defense Minister Levan Izoria said at the joint meeting of the Committees on Human Rights and Civil Integration, Defense and Security, Legal Issues and Procedural Issues.

Levan Izoria spoke about the significance of the NATO summit in Brussels and the progress of Georgia in this regard.

“An important declaration was adopted at the NATO summit in Brussels, which once again emphasized that NATO remains committed to the open door policy, including with respect to Georgia. The reforms and progress made in the country in terms of strengthening democratic institutions and modernization of the defense sphere were particularly highlighted. It has been said that Georgia has achieved significant success in terms of implementation of particularly comprehensive reforms”, – Izoria said.

According to him, all member countries have clearly stated that Georgia will have maximum support for NATO membership.

“This is reflected in the initiative about expanding the NATO-Georgia essential package. Specifically, we are talking about new initiatives and deepening cooperation in different directions, such as counter-mobility, cyber security, as well as the safe communications system. Most important – joint military trainings, which are planned to be held at a large scale for the next year than it was held at the end of 2016, “- said Levan Izoria.
