Leogrand Hotel had earlier been fined by Rescue Service - Zurab Pataridze

Zurab Pataridze, Chairman of Adjara Government confirmed the information that Leogrand Hotel had earlier been fined by the corresponding agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs due to non-observance of fire regulations. As for the Tourism Department, it issued only recommendation.

“The Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs fined the hotel. As for the Tourism Department, this was a different case, which included only recommendation and it was issued last year,” Pataridze said.

Eleven people died as a result of the fire, which broke out last evening at 5-star Leogrand Hotel in Batumi. Ten people are citizens of Georgia, one – Iran. More than 100 people were evacuated from the building.
