Lelo's Sioridze: Georgian society's year of unwavering resistance to ultimately secure regime change
“The Georgian Dream government, with its new draconian legislation, is tightening restrictions on assembly and protests. They are clearly annoyed by the Rustaveli demonstrations, whether by large crowds or even a single individual, and are attempting to ban even people standing on the pavement from exercising their constitutional rights,” stated Giorgi Sioridze, a member of the Lelo-Strong Georgia party.
According to Sioridze, the Georgian people have been engaged in continuous resistance for a year and are determined to achieve their ultimate goal.
“The Russian regime seeks to obliterate the last remnants of freedom within our country, and this includes the peaceful protests on Rustaveli Avenue. The regime’s new, oppressive laws aim to make assembly and expression increasingly difficult. The fact is that the regime is alarmed by the Rustaveli protest, even a single-person demonstration. It is attempting to prevent people standing on the sidewalk from exercising their constitutional rights.
This is the path that Russia has taken, especially after 2012, a path that Ivanishvili now seeks to pave in Georgia. However, the freedom-loving Georgian society has demonstrated that it can maintain continuous resistance for a year, and we are determined to reach our goal: regime change,” he said.
