Lelo’s Gegelia on ex-President Saakashvili’s message: Our goal is to heal society, not deepen divisions
“I do not share the sentiment expressed by Mikheil Saakashvili in his recent statement. We aim to unify society; on the contrary, we must work to heal it from divisions,” said Grigol Gegelia, a member of Lelo-Strong Georgia.
Gegelia responded to Saakashvili’s assertion that “there is no longer one Georgia, but two civilizationally divided Georgias, with deep incompatibility and civil conflict.”
According to Gegelia, this is a disastrous message.
“I do not share the spirit conveyed in Saakashvili’s statement. I believe our primary goal must be to unify society, to reconsolidate it around shared national principles, and, above all, to heal the wounds of division, trauma, and fragmentation, wounds inflicted by the Russian autocracy of the Georgian Dream regime.
Today, our society is deeply divided and toxic. This is extremely harmful to the unity and integrity of our state. Therefore, I see it as my duty as a politician to promote initiatives that will heal, unite, and put an end to the strife, hatred, and divisions that threaten our society, fostering a free, equal, and prosperous Georgia,” Gegelia concluded.
