Ex-President Saakashvili: Georgia splits into two civilisationally divided nations
“On one side stands civilisation, and on the other are utter barbarians. On this side, we have Europe; on that side, Russia and Asia. On this side, we have progress; on that side, complete backwardness. On this side, there is thinking; on that side, a single thought. On this side we have goodness, and on that side, evil,” writes Georgia’s former President Mikheil Saakashvili on social media.
“Let us face the truth. There is no longer one united Georgia. There are two Georgias, divided by civilisation. The first consists of those people who love their country, who loathe Russia, who want to be in Europe, who desire the return of our occupied territories, and who support democracy and free elections. They possess a sense of dignity and pride. These Georgians are hard-working, educated, and capable of fighting.
Antsukhеlidze, the Shindisi heroes, Tatunashvili, Kakha Bendukidze, the fearless young people who have poured into the streets with blazing eyes, Aza Chilachava, who marched into prison with her head held high, are standing on this side.
Ivanishvili, however, has definitively formed the second Georgia. The inhabitants of this Georgia are informers, collaborators, liars, remarkably shameless, cowardly, fearful, greedy, and corrupt. They are characterised by a servile attitude towards Father Provider and towards Russia. They cannot even imagine that the country needs defending and are ready to surrender to the very first invader.
For ‘Gruzins’, tradition means ‘very Georgian-style posturing’. They feed on hatred and are nourished by ‘Imedi news broadcasts’. They possess no historical memory whatsoever and blindly swallow whatever Russian-GD propaganda delivers on any given day.
They possess no sense of empathy and are utterly merciless towards their fellow citizens.
Now, we must recognise one thing: we and they cannot coexist within the same country. There is a profound incompatibility and an authentic civil conflict at play.
The good news is that the majority of us Georgians belong to the first category. The bad news is that, for now, the ‘Gruzin slaves’ have far greater financial resources, wield power, and are backed by Russia.
Therefore, we Georgians must gather our strength, show even greater courage, and throw off the ‘Gruzins’ yoke’.
After victory, we face a lengthy process of de-Gruzinisation ahead, so that we never allow their resurgence again.
We shall inevitably triumph; I have not a shadow of doubt. The matter is that on one side stands civilisation, and on the other are utter barbarians. On this side, we have Europe; on that side, Russia and Asia. On this side, we have progress; on that side, complete backwardness. On this side, there is thinking; on that side, a single thought. On this side, we have goodness, and on that side, evil.
We differ in our manner of speech and vocabulary, in our gesticulation, in our understanding, and in the expression of our eyes. We differ anthropologically; on this side are working people, on that side – classic parasites. On this side is humanism, on that side – sadism. On this side is dignity, on that side – a complex of inferiority.
So let us stop talking about how we are all one. Reconciliation between us and them is impossible so far.
In reality, the only thing that unites us with the ‘Gruzins’ is probably that we like the same dishes and Georgia’s nature, and apart from that, nothing unites us at all!
On that side is darkness and evil, which we must defeat, and we will!” Mikheil Saakashvili wrote.
