Lelo's Datunashvili warns that government violence threatens civil peace

“A government that intends to rule the country using a Russian-Mongolian model is forced to employ primitive methods of governance. Primitive methods inherently involve simply crude, naked physical force, which it uses to save itself from discreditation,” declared Tazo Datunashvili, head of the Strong Georgia-Lelo election campaign.

According to Datunashvili, the daily, permanent protests near Kaladze’s office on Melikishvili Avenue have put “the election campaign of Georgia’s most corrupt politician in a very dire situation.”

“Like all intellectually bankrupt individuals, all people who lack thinking ability, he has resorted directly to physical force. He has deployed the dregs of this society, the genuinely ordinary antisocial elements of this society, to emerge in the city centre and attack peaceful protesters. Through this, he has created the illusion of civil confrontation. In reality, there is no civil confrontation whatsoever. A few brain-dead young men were told to ‘attack’ for very small compensation, like ordinary street dogs, and were set upon the protesters. We are monitoring this.

Any violence instigated by the government, especially when it exceeds the limits of what is considered legitimate violence – that is, when law enforcement agencies do not even restrain it – poses a very serious threat to civil peace in this country. And like everything else, Georgian Dream poses a threat to Georgian interests today. Georgian Dream is also undermining civil tranquillity in this society and this country. This is the path that Georgia has unfortunately travelled over recent years of its history. This path has never brought this country to the right point. This is dangerous, shameful, and simply inhuman,” declared Tazo Datunashvili.
