The opposition party Lelo–Strong Georgia has called for granting the Anaklia Deep Sea Port the status of a strategic national asset, emphasizing its importance for regional security, economic development, and energy diversification.

In a statement, the party said the project is crucial for ensuring “real and lasting peace” in Georgia amid ongoing geopolitical instability.

According to Lelo–Strong Georgia, the Anaklia project represents a key geopolitical choice for the country and should be declared a top national priority. The party also proposed naming the port after U.S. President Donald Trump and positioning it as a gateway to the so-called “Trump Road,” a regional transit route linking the South Caucasus with Western markets.

“Against the backdrop of geopolitical instability and ongoing regional conflicts, the opposition party “Lelo–Strong Georgia” says the policies of the ruling Georgian Dream place the country at risk by pursuing what it describes as an isolationist and anti-Western course.

According to the party, the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project — comparable in strategic importance to the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline — aligns with the priorities of the United States and the administration of Donald Trump, and continues to attract American interest.

The statement emphasizes that Anaklia could become a turning point for regional security, economic development, and energy diversification in the Black Sea region. Granting the port the status of a strategic national asset is described as essential for ensuring long-term peace and stability in Georgia.

“Anaklia is not just a port — it is a national and geopolitical choice. This choice has already been made by the Georgian people, and it must be implemented in reality, not imitated,” the statement reads.

The party outlines key conditions for the project’s implementation, including declaring it a top national priority, ensuring transparency of all agreements, prioritizing the involvement of American and transatlantic financial institutions, and preventing participation by entities linked to Russian or Chinese state interests.

“Following the Armenian–Azerbaijani agreement, a significant new international transit route has emerged in the South Caucasus, referred to as the ‘Trump Road.’ Georgia must play a central role in this route, which can be ensured through the construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port. The port would serve as a natural extension and key gateway of the corridor to Western markets. We call on stakeholders to consider naming the Anaklia Port after Donald Trump, positioning it as a strategic hub that could bring increased security, Western investment, and economic growth to Georgia,” the statement notes.

“Lelo–Strong Georgia” stated that it has a concrete plan for the rapid implementation of the Anaklia project, including the development of “Anaklia City,” which it says could create tens of thousands of jobs. The party emphasized that the project represents a major opportunity for the country and warned against repeating past setbacks.

“The country needs Anaklia, the Georgian people need Anaklia. Anaklia will be built,” the statement concludes.
