“The transport sector makes a tremendous contribution to strengthening our country’s economy, and for that reason, our government is devoting exceptional effort to its development,” stated the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, during a visit to Batumi alongside the Prime Minister.

As Mariam Kvrivishvili noted, the government gives high priority to the development of Georgian Railway.

“We place special focus on developing Georgian Railway, and consequently, we have devised a historic program of expansion and modernisation. Under this scheme, numerous major reforms and infrastructural upgrades are already underway. This will boost Georgian Railway’s operational capacity both in terms of freight throughput and by ensuring that passenger services improve day by day, enabling us to host domestic and international travellers with higher service quality and superior rolling stock,” declared Mariam Kvrivishvili.

She added that a 1 billion GEL investment will be channelled into the development of Georgian Railway.

“Large-scale investments will be made in Georgian Railway, a one-billion-Lari investment that will primarily guarantee an increase in freight capacity, while also directly improving passenger infrastructure,” noted Mariam Kvrivishvili.
